Our members are of all ages and all walks of life. Some have played for many years, some have played a non-brass instrument and some have never played at all. It doesn’t matter. You don’t need to have your own instrument, We will provide one and you can choose whether you would like play with the cornets, the horns, the trombones or the basses depending on your own preference and possibly personality!
We provide all music, instrument insurance and cleaning equipment. We also provide uniform suitable for our very variable weather conditions.
Do you think you might like to have a go? Just come along on a Monday evening at 7.30 pm and make up your mind. We also have extra practice and tuition sessions earlier on Monday evenings where newer players can meet in a small group to get comfortable with the basics of playing.
Also, if you’re a visitor or an experienced player who’s new to the area, get in touch and maybe come for a few practice sessions.

We normally start youngsters off at around 9 years of age. It is important that they have developed a full set of front teeth so that they can form a good “embouchure”.
The great thing about learning with the band is that it’s a very, very cheap way to learn an instrument.
For the first few months we make no charge at all and provide an instrument for you to take home, a weekly lesson, and all the appropriate sheet music. If you decide to carry on with the band then you would be liable for an annual subscription when these come up for renewal in January. This is around £30 for adults and half that for children.
Tuition is given by experienced players who will all have been through the normal police checks required by those working with young people. Parents are welcome to stay and watch lessons – or to join in with an instrument themselves if they feel like it.
Lessons are normally from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on a Monday.
